Peanut Butter and Jelly…

Kids love peanut butter and jelly. My kids are no different. Living in Tacoma until a year ago our kids woke up almost every morning wanting a waffle with peanut butter and syrup. It was a staple around our house. When all else failed, you could count on peanut butter and jelly! For Jacob it was peanut butter and, “bee.” (which meant syrup) For Ariel it was, “peanut butter and syrup please.” (rather sweetly and politely.) For Hailey, it is, “waffle with peanut butter, and no syrup! (rather intensely.) However, something happened when we stepped into the nation of South Africa that I never would have expected. It is possible to have too much of a good thing…even peanut butter and jelly. While living on a missionary’s budget as a team in Cape Town our kids ate peanut butter and jelly for almost every breakfast and lunch until they couldn’t take it anymore. Once we arrived back in Australia and Grandma brought two Costco sized jars of Peanut Butter they actually remained unopened until we finally gave them away to friends. Launch Pad

Launch Pad – noun – “The area on which a rocket stands for launching, typically consisting of a platform with a supporting structure.”

Launch Pad…there are many things that come to mind when I read this phrase. The first is a contraption called “the blob.” When I was in High School I went to an amazing camp called Malibu that had this incredible contraption. All week long I was hearing about “the blob!!” “You have to launch off of the blob!!!” Finally I realized that the blob was this huge, gigantic…blob…floating out in the water off of the dock. You had to jump off of a high platform onto the blob…crawl out to the end, and then someone else would jump off of the platform onto the blob…and when they landed you would go flying off the end and into the water. “FUN!” I decided that in order fly as high as I possibly could I would need someone with more weight jumping onto the other end to launch me…so I got “big Dave” Read the rest of this entry »
