Today I learned to surf! I can now actually say “I am a surfer!”
I met the most amazing Aussie Girl…Niki. Niki is 22 and grew up surfing in Australia from the time she was 7 years old! We were talking one day and I was telling her about my 6-year-old son learning how to surf in South Africa and how cool it was. Unfortunately I (the mum) didn’t get to learn…it was a father/son thing…mainly because of time and money, but I would have loved to have a shot at it.
“Do you want me to teach you how to surf?” Niki asked me…”Yeah!” was my reply…”do you want to?”…”Yeah!” she said. So it was a done deal.
“Next Wednesday!” Niki informed me…”the swell report looks great!”
Swell report? Oh…never heard of such a thing. “Great, I’m in!” was my reply.

Flipped upside down…that’s what my world has been this past year. Pulled out of the comfort of the everyday routine, the expected, “know what tomorrow will be like” kind of life. An amazing life it was…yet ready for change. God answered our prayer and sent us across the world! Now He’s sending us out around it again.
9 months of “missionary living” in the YWAM Perth family. 3 of those months spent on outreach…evangelizing the nations of South Africa and Malaysia. Loving every minute of it all!
After returning “home” to our amazing Australia YWAM family we knew we would need to make some decisions…some big ones. Would we stay here and commit the next portion of our life to serving God in Australia? Would we return home to our church in Tacoma and serve Him there? Would we say Yes to invitations given to us in South Africa and Malaysia and become long-term missionaries in either one of those locations? Would we take a break from ministry all together and work regular jobs? Would we serve Him somewhere unexpected? Read the rest of this entry »
